Description
Conversation cards for young children
With conversation cards for young children, the little ones get help putting big feelings into words. Children aged 3–6 feel joy, anger and sadness just as strongly as adults – but they don’t always have the words. Hjertesnak Kids 3–6 is a set of picture cards with happy, sad, angry and surprised faces, plus small actions your child can do with their body.
The adult reads the card aloud, and the child answers with words, a face or a movement. There are no right or wrong answers – what matters is that you talk.
Examples from our conversation cards for young children
- "Show with your face how you look when you are happy."
- "What was the most fun thing you played today?"
- "Give a hug or a high five – you choose!"
How to play
- Take turns drawing a card and reading it aloud – in Danish or English.
- Answer the question or do the action.
- No one loses: everyone wins when we talk.
When does it fit in?
A game takes 5–10 minutes, so it suits young children’s attention span. Use the cards at bedtime, in the car, at dinner or in kindergarten. Many families pick a fixed time so talking becomes a safe routine.
What’s in the box?
50 cards in a box, printed on FSC-certified paper. Every card has the text in both Danish and English, so they also suit bilingual families and children learning English. Choose between the card game and an online version sent to you by email straight away.
To make talking a habit, combine it with the Talk poster. If you have several children, the Family set gives you all three ages at a lower price. Find more ideas in the article 40 good questions for kids.
Hjertesnak is a conversation game – not therapy. If you are worried about a child, you can contact BørneTelefonen (Børns Vilkår, Danish child helpline) or a professional.
