Description

Conversation cards for schoolchildren

"How was school?" – "Fine." Sound familiar? Our conversation cards for schoolchildren aged 7–9 get more than one-word answers. The cards are written in simple language so your child can read them aloud, and they mix questions with fun actions and "wild cards" where the child asks the adult.

When the child draws the card and the adult answers too, the pressure disappears. Talking becomes a game – and you hear things you would never have heard otherwise.

Examples from our conversation cards for schoolchildren

  • "What made you laugh today?"
  • "If you were in charge of the school for one day, what would you change?"
  • "Ask the adult: What were you afraid of when you were my age?"

Why do conversation cards work for schoolchildren?

Young schoolchildren talk most when they are in control. A card gives a frame: the child knows what to answer and the adult knows what to ask. Many parents find that after a few weeks their child starts telling them about the day on their own.

How to play

  1. Take turns drawing a card and reading it aloud – in Danish or English.
  2. Answer the question or do the action.
  3. No one loses: everyone wins when we talk.

When does it fit in?

Use the cards after school, at dinner or as a cosy weekend ritual. A game takes 10–15 minutes and can be stopped at any time.

What’s in the box?

50 cards in a box, printed on FSC-certified paper. Every card has the text in both Danish and English, so they also suit bilingual families and children learning English. Choose between the card game and an online version sent to you by email straight away.

To make talking a habit, combine it with the Talk poster. If you have several children, the Family set gives you all three ages at a lower price. Find more ideas in the article 40 good questions for kids.

Hjertesnak is a conversation game – not therapy. If you are worried about a child, you can contact BørneTelefonen (Børns Vilkår, Danish child helpline) or a professional.
